Frequently Asked Questions
(Updated March 2024)
Q 1: What if the funeral home you have contracted goes out of business?
Your money is deposited in a LJF bank account and not with the funeral home. Funeral home going bankrupt doesn’t have any impact on your money. It is safe with the bank. California Department of Consumer Affairs (CDCA) controls and regulates many functions of all the funeral homes in our state.
Q 2: What is my status if I move my residence outside of San Diego County?
You cease to remain a member of LJF.
Q 3: What happens if the promised services are not delivered for which I have paid my membership fee?
The sole purpose of our foundation is to serve the members. Our cash flow and our contracted prices with the funeral homes, makes this program viable. We do not see any reason to default on our commitments except for a catastrophic situation beyond our control.
Q 4: Why do we have to wait 90 days from joining the foundation to be eligible for benefits?
Ninety days waiting is one of the conditions of all our membership. It takes approximately 90 days to attend to all the paperwork with funeral home and complete other formalities.
Q 5: What happens if there is a cash shortfall after few years?
Our calculations and analysis show that we should always remain in a positive cash situation. We will need to raise funds in case we encounter a situation of negative cash flow.
Q 6: Who administers the foundation? Is the administrative body paid for the services?
The Foundation is administered by the Executive Committee members. They are fully committed to this social work. They do not get paid any remuneration for their services.
Q 7: How long the current executive committee remains in power?
Any member of the committee can resign with 90 days’ notice. He/she will be replaced by the selection of a new person by the executive committee.
